Common questions
Can I decode Base64 without a data:image prefix?
Yes. The decoded file header determines its actual image type, and the preview updates automatically. Download preserves the decoded bytes rather than re-saving the preview. Image data is limited to 20 MiB; input text has a separate length limit.
Does Base64 make an image smaller for a website?
Usually not. Base64 uses roughly one-third more characters than the original bytes, plus a Data URL prefix. It suits small embedded assets; compressing larger photos and using ordinary image URLs is often easier to manage.
What should I check when pasted Base64 is rejected?
Paste only the image Data URL or Base64 payload, without JSON quotes, field names or ellipses. Whitespace is allowed. Ordinary image URLs and URL-safe Base64 using hyphens or underscores are not accepted; recopy truncated data in full.
