About this tool
Application photos, email attachments and website images have different size constraints. A target ceiling helps meet an upload limit; the preview and actual dimensions help judge whether detail remains usable.
How to use
Compress image — Online image compressor
Compress JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF images in batches with smart optimisation, a target KB limit, or manual quality and dimension controls. WASM encoding runs locally in your browser.
Prepare a photo under 100KB. The shortcut selects JPEG, a 100KB ceiling and no automatic reduction in dimensions. Check actual bytes and whether the target was met, then inspect text and edges at full size. If needed, lower the quality floor or reduce dimensions when the receiving site allows it. Here 1KB means 1024 bytes; for a strict 100,000-byte limit, use a 97KB target.
Smart compression, target KB, or manual quality
Choose Smart, Target size, Custom quality, or High fidelity according to the job. Smart mode suits websites and everyday sharing. Target size searches for the highest quality that stays under your ceiling, which is useful for application forms, email attachments, and publishing systems with strict upload limits.
Batch JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF compression
Select several images, a whole folder, or a ZIP archive. Review any file in the queue, process selected files or everything, and export individual results or one ZIP. JPEG uses MozJPEG, PNG uses OxiPNG, and WebP and AVIF use dedicated browser WASM encoders that load only when required.
Get smaller images without avoidable damage
Photographs usually work well as WebP, AVIF, or JPEG; transparent artwork is better suited to WebP or PNG. Start with Smart mode, zoom into fine texture and text, then adjust quality if needed. For a strict KB ceiling, dimension fallback can progressively reduce the long edge after the minimum quality is reached.
Compare, verify, and continue editing
Use the before-and-after slider to inspect edges, gradients, and texture. Every result reports input and output bytes, savings, dimensions, format, quality, and the actual encoding strategy. Download one result, selected results, or a ZIP, then pass images directly to crop, resize, watermark, and other local tools.
Privacy, metadata, and browser limits
Images are decoded and compressed in the current browser and are not uploaded by this tool. Re-encoding removes EXIF and GPS metadata while originals remain unchanged; an original kept byte for byte retains its metadata. Very large images and large batches require substantial memory, so inspect final output before formal submission or publication.
Common questions
Why is a 100 KB target not exactly 100 KB?
The target is a ceiling; the tool does not add useless bytes to fill it. It works within the quality floor and resizing options. If it cannot meet the target, relax the limit, change format or allow smaller dimensions.
Is location metadata always removed by compression?
Re-encoding removes EXIF and GPS, but a compliant original kept byte for byte retains its metadata. Check whether the original was preserved; use the metadata cleaner before sharing if those fields must be removed.
Which format should I use for photos, screenshots and transparent images?
Compare JPEG, WebP or AVIF for photographs, checking destination support. Try PNG first for text screenshots and limited-colour graphics. Keep an alpha-capable format for transparency; if an application requires JPEG, inspect the filled background.
How do I judge whether a size-compliant image is still usable?
Check its actual dimensions and zoom in on small text, identifiers, hair and edges. Meeting the byte limit does not guarantee readability. Raise the quality floor, reduce downscaling or relax the size limit, then compare with the source.
