About this tool
Review edits to prose or configuration while keeping unchanged sections out of the way. For JSON values independent of key order, use JSON structure comparison.
How to use
Enter the original text on the left and the updated text on the right, or open a file on each side. Matching lines are aligned, so inserting one line does not mark every later line as changed.
Comparison is case- and whitespace-sensitive; CRLF and CR are normalized to LF. Each input allows 3,000 lines and 256 KiB, with a maximum line-count product of 4 million. Downloads use +, - and a space to mark line changes.
Switch between side-by-side and unified views. Changed characters are highlighted within paired lines. Collapse long unchanged sections, expand them when needed, and jump between changes. Ignoring trailing whitespace is optional; other whitespace and letter case still matter. The download always includes the full comparison.
Common questions
Does folding unchanged text remove it from the download?
No, downloads contain the full line comparison. The output has change markers but no standard patch file or hunk headers, so it is not a patch ready for git apply.
Can I ignore indentation differences?
Only trailing spaces and tabs can be ignored. Leading indentation and letter case still count. CRLF and CR line endings are normalized to LF for comparison.
How do I compare documents that exceed the limit?
Compare matching chapters separately. Each side allows 256 KiB and 3,000 lines, and the two line counts multiplied together must not exceed 4 million; short files can still exceed that work limit.
