About this tool
Set up a print document using trim dimensions, resolution and the bleed required by your print provider.
How to use
Choose a paper series and size, then portrait or landscape. A4 is 210 × 297 mm; Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. The B series here is ISO B, which differs from Japanese JIS B sizes. C-series values describe envelope sizes.
Enter the pixel resolution for your print layout. The calculation is millimeters ÷ 25.4 × pixels per inch, rounded to the nearest whole pixel. A4 at 300 PPI is 2480 × 3508 pixels. Points use 72 pt per inch, independently of the pixel resolution.
Bleed extends past each trimmed edge. With 3 mm bleed, an A4 document needs 216 × 303 mm before trimming. The result lists both the trim size and the output size including bleed. Copy the dimensions for your design software; no image is resized or sharpened by this calculator.
The diagram illustrates proportions rather than actual size on your screen. Check printer margins and the print provider’s bleed requirements separately. Resolution accepts 1–2,400 PPI and bleed 0–50 mm per edge. Calculations stay in your browser and no input is stored.
Common questions
Does increasing PPI improve image detail?
No; it only changes the calculated pixel dimensions. Bleed adds to both edges: A4 with 3 mm per edge becomes 216 × 303 mm before trimming.
What pixel size should I use for A4 at 300 PPI?
With portrait A4 and no bleed, 210 × 297 mm converts to 2480 × 3508 pixels at 300 PPI, rounded to whole pixels. Landscape swaps the dimensions. Add only the bleed required by your printer; this calculates a document size and does not resize your image.
