About this tool

Convert an address from a device label into the notation required by a configuration form.

How to use

Enter a 48-bit MAC address using colons, hyphens, three dotted groups of four hexadecimal digits, or 12 continuous hexadecimal digits. Results include each common format and binary notation, plus unicast/multicast and local/universal administration flags. Copy individual formats as needed.

Generate creates a locally administered unicast address using browser randomness. Processing stays local: there is no vendor database lookup and no access to your network adapter. Generated addresses are not guaranteed to be unique within your network.

Common questions

Can this identify the device manufacturer?

No vendor lookup runs. The tool reads address bits and can generate a locally administered unicast address; generated values are not guaranteed unique on your network.

How do I fix a MAC address format error?

Keep all 12 hexadecimal digits, including leading zeros. Accepted forms include 02:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E, 02-1A-2B-3C-4D-5E, 021A.2B3C.4D5E and 021A2B3C4D5E. Use one separator style throughout; shortened octets such as 2:1A:… are not accepted.
