About this tool

How to use
Type text on the left to encode it, or paste Base64 on the right to decode it. Choose standard Base64 or Base64url, then copy or download the result.
Text uses UTF-8. Decoding checks the alphabet, padding bits and byte validity instead of silently replacing broken characters. Each input supports up to 2 MiB. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption.
Common questions
Why can valid Base64 fail to decode as text?
Base64 can represent any bytes, but this tool requires valid UTF-8 text. Images and other binary data may not meet that requirement. Base64 encoding does not encrypt the contents.
When should I select Base64url?
Use it when an API expects URL-safe Base64: it replaces + and / with - and _ and omits trailing =. For example, A becomes QQ== in standard mode and QQ in URL-safe mode.
How do I fix an invalid Base64 error?
Check the selected alphabet and copy the complete value, including any padding. Spaces and line breaks are ignored, but invalid padding bits and non-UTF-8 decoded bytes are rejected.
