How to use
Enter text to compress it, or paste gzip Base64 to recover the text. Edit either side, copy the Base64 output or download text.txt.gz for use with standard gzip tools.
Supports one gzip member containing UTF-8 text. Decompression checks the checksum and recorded size. Work runs separately from the interface and stops on oversized output. Text and decompressed output are limited to 2 MiB; Base64 input to 3 MiB. Gzip compresses data; it does not encrypt it.
Common questions
Can this open any gzip archive?
It handles a single gzip member containing UTF-8 text, with checksum verification and a 2 MiB decompressed limit. It is not a general archive extractor.
Why is the compressed result longer than my original text?
Gzip adds a header and checksum, while Base64 makes the compressed bytes larger again. Short or already compressed content may therefore grow. For file size comparisons, use the downloaded .gz file and the original UTF-8 byte size, rather than comparing character counts.
