How to use
Choose or drop a file, then select the hash algorithm. Paste an expected checksum to compare it instantly; hexadecimal letter case and surrounding whitespace are ignored.
One file of up to 64 MiB is processed at a time. Changing the file or algorithm invalidates the old result. HTTPS supports the SHA family and MD5; plain HTTP supports SHA-256 and MD5. The filename is not part of the hash.
Common questions
Does renaming a file change its checksum?
No, the digest uses content bytes rather than the filename. A matching checksum does not prove a file is harmless: this tool does not scan for malware or authenticate the checksum source.
How do I check a downloaded file?
Choose the file and the algorithm stated by its publisher, then paste only the expected digest. Hex letter case and surrounding whitespace are ignored; a filename or algorithm label is not part of the value.
Is the file uploaded, and what if it cannot be read?
File bytes stay in the browser. Choose one file up to 64 MiB; if reading fails, reselect the local file. Splitting it would produce different checksums, not the original file’s digest.
